Stalemate in AL East, Wildcard now at 1 1/2...

Neither team could gain ground on the other, but Yanks slip to 1 1/2 back in wildcard. Look out for Cleveland, winning 12 of last 13, and play Chisox head to head 6 times. Sox & Yanks might both get in, with Chisox playing golf in Fla...

Yanks couldn't capitalize on A's blowout. Jeter struck out looking with a runner on second in the 9th, which is the 8th time he's choked with the potential tying run on base this year. Eight times. Not the Jeter of old...

Wright 2.1IP, 5H, 4R, 1BB before he got hit by the broken bat. Do you think he's going to pitch well again this season? He might not make his next start. That's the second time he's been hit since his return from DL. Talk about bad luck. It's followed the pitching staff all season...

Matt Clement looked horrible on Sun. He pitched probably the worst outing a Sox starter has had all season. His last two outings have been shaky. Let's hope his late season reputation doesn't follow him here...

Big Papi had another huge homer over the weekend, followed up by Manny finally doing the same. The bats have been fairly quiet. They are reaching the end of their 30 game stretch without a day off. Damon is playing hurt. Varitek is struggling. The other regulars are exhausted. Everyone is banged up. Wouldn't be a big deal early in the season or before the all-star break, but these guys really need a day off. If they take 2 of 3 from D-Rays, they'll be in good shape. The day off on Thursday will give them the boost they need down the stretch...

Some #'s to make you feel better:

Sox scenario #1: They go 7-6 the rest of the way, Yanks must go 9-5 just to tie

Sox scenario #2: They go 8-5, Yanks need 10-6 to tie

Sox scenario #3: They go 9-4, Yanks need 11-5 to tie

etc...
