World Series without perennial powers...

Although most of us will be casual on-lookers, this series has the potential to be one of the best ever. Baseball fans in general must be excited that the Yanks and Braves are nowhere to be seen. It's great to see a matchup with a team that has never made it in 44 years of existance, and the other having won last over 80 years ago. Either way, the winner becomes a great story. Lets hope it's a 7 game series filled with drama and roller coaster rides. But realistically, it should be an old fashioned pitching duel. For those of you in the Vegas area, you may want to jump on the "under" for each game...

Here's some analysis of the key areas for both squads:

Starting pitching:

Chisox: Have had an amazing run. Starters only needed 2 outs of relief in 5 games. Wow. They are well rested.

Stros: Pitching has been dominating. Not just good. If not for some Pujols magic, NLCS would have been over in 5 games.

Advantage: Stros. Clemens & Pettite are playoff battle tested. Oswalt looks unhittable.

Lineups / Defense:

Advantage: Even. Both are solid defensively. This won't be won or lost on fielding. Will come down to who gets the big hit.

Relief:

Advantage: Even. Both pens are solid. Chisox are more rested (maybe too much), but closer Lidge is far better than Jenks.

Intangibles:

Chisox: Home field. Have been getting all the breaks go their way. But, just waiting for Guillen to say/do something wacky when pressure is really on.

Stros: Strong veteran presence, more playoff experience. Extra team incentive to get Biggio/Bagwell a ring.

Edge: Even. Look for "role players" to have a significant impact on this series. Clutch hitting is the only way to overcome dominant pitching.

The full monty:

As we are always reminded each postseason, pitching wins championships. Both teams matchup in every other category. Despite Chicago's recent success on the mound, we think Houston is just at another level. Regardless, this should be a grind em out series. Not much offense, which will intensify each at bat especially late in games. Would really love to see this be an epic 7 games series and grab national attention...

Prediction: Houston in 7...

Great site. Anything that is built around hating the Yankees is something I would enjoy seeing.

Long ago, there lived a pitcher for the White Sox named Captain Bravado. He was a manly man's man, who showed no fear when facing his enemies.
One day, while facing the Angels, his teamates spotted Guerraro coming to the plate, and the city became frantic. Captain Bravado bellowed, "Bring me my red undershirt!"
The trainer quickly retrieved the pitcher's red undershirt, and while wearing the brightly colored undershirt, the Captain led his team into battle and defeated the Angels.
That evening, all the men sat around locker room recounting the day's triumph. One of them asked the Pitcher, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before battle?"
The pitcher replied, "If I were to be wounded in the game, the shirt would not show my blood. Thus, you men would continue to fight, unafraid." All of the men sat and marveled at the courage of such a manly man's man.
As dawn came the next morning, a teammate spotted the mighty Astros and city of Houston approaching. The team stared in worshipful silence at the pitcher and waited for his usual orders. Captain Bravado gazed with steely eyes upon enemy arrayed against his team, and without fear, turned and calmly shouted, "Get me my brown pants!"

Does Captain Bravado have a cousin on the Yanks staff?

I wish I shared your enthusiasm about this World Series. I just don't. Can't really explain it. I want the "season" to be over so Hot Stove can truly begin!

And I want the ChiSox to be put down like rabid dogs.

I don't think I ask too much.

Yes, Mr. Staff.

Can understand the lack of enthusiasm. Ratings are baring that out as well. So with you on the Hot Stove thing...

Tough to get past the Guillen thing. Maybe the lack of star power too. Is there a hitter on either side you wouldn't want to miss by grabbing a beer from the fridge? Konerko maybe.

There's actually been a couple of entertaining games so far. Oswalt should be lights out tonight. Not much else on to get the blood going either...

We were alos happy that the Redsox returned to not being a World series winner... the status quo.

Status quo? Yanks haven't won since YEAR 2000! That is more status quo than 1 year, wouldn't you say?

Will be same for Yanks in 06 - not enough pitching...
