Yanks evade red-hot Twins, get stumbling Tigers...

Yup, even Siegfried and Roy aren't too worried about these Tigers...

Coming off a terrible collapse and backing into the playoffs (very uncharacteristic for a Leyland team), things look lined up nicely for the Yanks. With Sheff and Matsui back, they have the most formidable lineup in the playoffs. There was no Sox series to wear them down. They've been able to rest their players. The stars are all aligned...

But there are only 3 things that win in October. Pitching, pitching, and pitching. With an ailing Unit and worn out pen, the Yanks pin their season on Mussina, Wang, and scoring a ton of runs. Don't see it carrying them too far...

They should be able to beat the reeling Tigers unless their young rotation steps it up. Verlander is more than capable of tossing some zero's. But they've been pitching worse than the Yanks have of late. Their lineup features 6 guys that hit 19 or more homers, so they can easily do some damage.

Anything can happen in a short series. Bad breaks, injuries, surprise contributors... A Detroit victory certainly wouldn't be shocking.

But just like St. Louis, these Tigers should be breaking out the golf clubs soon...

Well, A-Rod is captain of insecurities. Add in the disentegrating "team chemistry", and ouch...

In Oct, good pitching always beats good hitting. Yanks rank 6th (of 8 playoff teams) for starters ERA, and last in bullpen ERA.

Even if the Big Unit decides to "strap em on", how effective will he be?

Wang and Mussina need to be lights out, and then need some help. Even with Mariano, you still need to get to him. Good luck with that pen by the way...

"Perhaps" they won't see a strong opposing pitching staff. Yeah, right, that never happens in the playoffs.

What they should be worried about is their own staff...

..hey come out of the bathroom and come down the hall and watch the playoffs with us ...don't feel bad that the redsox are not in the playoffs!

...your team can have the MVP award winner, others prefer to have a chance for their team to win a ring any year...enjoy watching the playoffs and stay warm.

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein could use his phone to listen live to playoff baseball.

Break out champagne, get those little typing fingers ready - Yankees lost game 2! Aren't you just salivating? These are the moments you must be craving - so much to say, so little space and time. "Tigers are weak, and yet the Yanks lost to them at home". "Mussina and Wang gave up 3 and 4 runs to Detroit - wait till they play Oakland" and so on...

...that last posting is beautiful. I'm gonna cry. Remember their team isn't playing.

Ah yes, salivating. Thanks for the lead in too...

Game 3 comes down to who will suck less, Johnson or Rogers.

Yanks will need this one as game 4 should go to Detroit.

Is that tension in Yankee land settling in yet?

Speaking of imploding, will the A's lose another 3 straight?

The message from Tommy Lasorda I had sent from mlb.com to fans@nychoke.com

Got it.

Hysterical, even for a Yankee fan.

As much as I hate this site, the staff and the lovely Boston Red Sox, as I am sitting and watching the Yankees losing to the lowely Tigers, I must agree that the Yankees need to get rid of A-Rod asap. I don't even care if they get nothing in return - he is killing us in so many ways....

.....there are eight other batters also aren't getting it done. It's like what marylandyankee said;
.."Only their own, insecurities, and perhaps a strong opposing pitching staff, seem to stand a chance of stopping the Yankees".
