Beginning of end for Big Unit?

After his last shelling (uh, outing that is) - here are some comments (not making this stuff up):

Cashman: "He hasn't performed to his expectation or ours"...

Torre: "I can't say that we expected this stuff"...

Big Unit is winless since late July and has allowed 29HR (2nd in MLB & 1 shy of career high).

He's been on the DL or missed starts multiple times this season due to his back. We haven't heard anything publicly about the knee (missing cartilage), but he had cortizone shots all last season. Ask Keith Foulke how the knee can affect you - especially a power pitcher. He's 41 (42 in a few weeks), 17+ years of wear & tear, and has more pressure on him than ever before.

How's your Coccyx?

After his most recent loss, and 4HR in one inning, you can add whiplash to his list of injuries. Bad sign Yanks fans. But don't worry, he's good for at least 3 innings a start. (Just like tonights starter Leiter)

So if you think he's OK and the whole "I'm not sure what happened, I feel fine" lines, you are being snowed. Winter is coming early to NY this year...

You might hate to read this, but expect the Yankees to get stronger in the coming weeks.
Jaret Wright's return gives the Yankees one of the deepest rotations in the majors. (AP)
Sure, Randy Johnson looks pedestrian now, but would you really expect him to lose to teams like the Blue Jays, Royals, Devil Rays or Orioles in his final few starts?
The Yankees might have the easiest stretch schedule in baseball the rest of the way. Outside of six games against youzzz guys (home and away) and a three-game set in Oakland, the Yankees play a bunch of stiffs here on out.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. Deepest rotation in the majors? Deepest crap maybe. Who wrote that from the AP?

Who cares if you have 100 starters. You can only pitch 5. Your staff ace (not Big Unit) got shelled for 8 runs in 1 inning last night. We do enjoy that the AP called Big Unit pedestrian though (gives the title of this Blog more credibility)...

As far as the remaining schedule, Yanks are 4-9 vs Rays. Toronto & Baltimore are not the pushovers of old either - especially with the Yanks "deepest" rotation...

Sox lead majors with best home record. They have 24 of last 36 games at home. Sox opponents are basically the same - with the exception of Angels where you get Seattle (and newest MLB phenom pitcher).

Oh yeah, by the way, the Sox staff will get stronger and deeper with our Ace back in the starting rotation tonight. It may take him a few starts to get there, but look out if he does.

Foulke on the mend and will be back soon.

Rookie Papelbon has impressed as well.

Wade Miller to return soon.

Your rotation doesn't stack up, no matter how "deep" it is...
